Between the Adriatic Sea and the Maiella

Where history meets the future and nature inspires architecture

In the heart of Abruzzo, between the Adriatic Sea and the majestic Maiella, stands the estate of Famiglia Di Carlo | VignaMadre: a place where the legacy of an ancient winemaking tradition is renewed through a forward-looking vision that brings together nature, culture, research and excellence.

The family’s roots reach back to the nineteenth century, in a story of land, people and traditions handed down from generation to generation. From this heritage, in 1990, came the venture of Giannicola Di Carlo, one of the pioneers of Italian organic viticulture: a journey that began as early as 1989 and grew into a philosophy of production deeply rooted in respect for the land and for life.

A raft between the sea and the Maiella

Built between 1997 and 2000 according to the principles of bio-architecture, the winery was born from the founder’s vision and the design of Prof. Arch. Carlo Antonnicola, with the ambition of creating a building where aesthetics, environmental sustainability, technological innovation and human well-being live together in perfect harmony.

The structure evokes a great raft suspended between the Adriatic and the Maiella, as if joining sea and mountain on a single horizon. Shapes inspired by the Abruzzo landscape, eco-friendly materials and refined nautical references give life to a work with a strong identity, where every element tells of the dialogue between people and nature.

Villa Fania

The family’s historic farmhouse, guardian of the memory of rural life, is the most authentic soul of the estate.

Today it is home to Villa Fania, a restaurant and elegant event venue where the culture of hospitality meets fine food and the family’s great wines.

Alongside hospitality stands AMPHOROOM, a contemporary space devoted to research, micro-vinification and experimentation with amphora wines.

An exclusive setting that also becomes a Wine Club: a place for gatherings, tastings and private convivial experiences, where wine takes centre stage in new forms of culture and entertainment.

At the heart of the winery, oenological technology and artisan sensitivity guide every stage of production.

The storage and ageing rooms lead to the evocative barrel cellar, where selected woods, an intimate atmosphere, music therapy and the slow passing of time watch over the evolution of the most prestigious wines.

The symbolic heart of the winery

The Octagonal Hall

The symbolic heart of the winery

The Octagonal Hall

The journey reaches its architectural and emotional peak in the underground Octagonal Hall, inspired by the geometry of Castel del Monte and the grandeur of the Roman Pantheon. Natural light, reflecting water, geometry and celestial symbolism create a space of rare intensity, where architecture and symbolism meet.

Its niches hold the historic vintages of Giannicola Di Carlo’s personal reserve: bottles that travel through time, preserving the memory of harvests, intuitions and a life entirely devoted to the culture of wine.

A place of identity

Much more than a winery

VignaMadre is the expression of a family vision in which the legacy of the past fuels the courage to innovate: a heritage of knowledge, values and sensitivity renewed through the generations, without losing its deep bond with the land.

An experience to discover and live, where every space reveals an emotion and every detail expresses the essence of the Di Carlo family.

A place where architecture tells a story,
nature inspires and wine keeps time.
